Japanese Albums and Guestbooks, a.k.a. Asukabook

My first larger Japanese album is finally here! These are the new line of AsukaBooks that I decided to offer a few months ago. They are a professionally designed and printed coffee-table style book, and oh so gorgeous. Here you can see the custom designed cover and page layouts, plus a nice customized black case. I opted for the matte pages instead of the glossy- with glossy your colors really pop, but the matte pages are so silky and nice to touch. The printing almost rivals photographic prints. I was so excited yesterday when I picked it up from UPS, I took some quick pictures to show you all…

We can also use these books as custom guest books that include pictures from your getting-to-know-you shoot (a.k.a. engagement portraits with a twist). Typically the pages are designed with one or two images per page, and then an entire blank page with tons of rooms for your guests’ wishes. You can also see the vellum slip case it comes with. Just plan ahead with this since they do take a month to print once they’re designed!!

Passion (not THAT kind, get your mind out of there!)

I found this today on David Jay’s blog. He found it in an article called “The Ethical Mind.” Thought it was very interesting. Are YOU this passionate with what you do every day? If you didn’t answer “yes,” then maybe it’s time to switch things up a bit…

p.s. David Jay is an amazing photographer that’s well known in the photographic community in case 1. you’ve been living under a rock, or 2. aren’t in the photographic community. His company also produces the amazing slideshows that I use here on my blog… they’re also available as DVD’s now! Hooray for Christmas gifts!!

And while we’re on the subject of quotes… I found this one two months ago and it really hit home. I was thinking about making some big changes, and when I read it, I realized that they were changes that could only help me, my work, and my business (i.e. plans for a new, very dynamic website, logo revamp, new products, new markets, ect!). It’s so true, and makes sense no matter what you do or who you are.

Life is not a dress rehearsal. Don’t wait for the ‘perfect time’ or when you are 100% comfortable before stepping out. That time will often not come, and opportunities will be missed. – Anonymous

Jody and Griffin’s Queensberry Album

I just finished such a stunning album for Jody and Griffin. Their album is from Queensberry & Co.’s simply gorgeous handmade album line. This is just a sneak peak- Griffin is swinging by this Sunday to pick it up, and poor Jody is in… I can’t keep it straight anymore… Texas I think, for an internship, so this is all she gets to see until Griffin can deliver it in person! Their wedding was on a beautiful winter day at the Salish Lodge at Snoqualmie Falls- one of my favorite places to shoot!

Day in the Life: Us 3 and a Bit

Tessa is due any second now. A week or so ago I traveled over to her and Dave’s house in Sequim to photograph the two of them and their son, Jobe, before the newest member comes along. Stay tuned for part two of our two part shoot series: I’ll be traveling back over to the islands to photograph the arrival as soon as I get the word. So I’m kinda on call… kinda like a doctor… it’s kinda fun…

Sidenotes: “Us 3 and a Bit” comes from Tessa’s hilarious emails to me. This is how she always signs the bottom saying that it’s from her, Dave, Jobe, and the little one still in her belly (is it a boy? is it a girl? we won’t know until we know!). She’s going to have to think of something new and witty to write soon! Also… if you have a keen eye you’ll notice that my gold reflector is the backdrop for the pictures of Job laughing: in order to get little kids to comply with your photographic ideas, sometimes you have to play a little and bribe a lot. He LOVED my reflecter and the “whoosh” sound it makes when it opens. I told him that it was my sunshine, and that was all we needed to get him to laugh. Needless to say, the first thing he was talking about the next morning when he woke up was, “Laurel? Sunshine?” I love that he had a great time-sometimes it doesn’t take much to entertain these little guys!

Here are some of my favorite images from our “Day in the Life Shoot.”
