Hitched: Susan & Gavin

Gavin and Susan’s wedding day to-do list read like this:
1. run 5k wedding day run
2. get married
3. watch for the green flash as the sun sets
4. bonfire on the beach and star gazing 070922_0004.jpg
Their September wedding (yes, September! I’m still writing about September!) was set in the lush Olympic National Park, at the Kalaloch Lodge in Forks, Washington. A sweet little rustic property with scattered private cabins, Kalaloch is a favorite in the summer, but also in the winter for romantic evenings, as the coast is stormy and foggy and makes for great cuddle weather. The day they got married the sun was shining, the wind was blowing, and everyone was smiling.

Surrounded by their closest friends and families, folks came from everywhere to enjoy the weekend. They had cute little welcome bags and bouquets of flowers waiting in each guest room. The bags had everything you’d need: trail mix, a map of the surrounding forest, daytime cloud watching guide, nighttime star gazing guide, and some Vitamin C mix (awwww!). The day was so laid back and fun, the ceremony was so sweet and intimate. No chairs here- guests stood close. And I mean CLOSE!

We loved chasing the birds…

Here everyone was waiting, watching the sunset, hoping to see the mysterious green flash as the sun hits the horizon. Never saw it….070922_0477.jpg
Isn’t this the cutest idea for a slideshow: Gavin and Susan sent each of their friends a huge picture of themselves. Their assignment was to take a picture of themselves holding Gavin and Susan’s picture, wherever they were. I have to say, there were some mighty creative locations in that slideshow!

After the party died down, the hard core folks hiked down to the beach to build the world’s largest bonfire. What a great way to end your wedding day celebration- around a huge warm fire, built just for you, by all of your friends. With all of your friends, as the full moon is straight up above and the waves are crashing on the shore. (and the wind is brrrrrr blowing!)

According to the welcome packet that Gavin’s dad put together about the sky, this day was the Autumnal Equinox and the moon was to be a waxing gibbous moon. It was so bright outside, even in the middle of the night! Here are a couple of super neat shots we did with our (nearly frozen!) camera on the tripod. The exposures were so long that in the first shot, you don’t even see the water, just the moon shining on the waves. In the second shot, you can even see the stars- remember this was shot in the middle of the night in the pitch black! It amazes me what the camera can see that our naked eye can’t!

Chuckle of the Day

I really do have so much blogging to catch up on, and I promise I won’t be one of those people who start a blog and love it for a while, then totally drop off the face of the Earth! This has been such a wonderful Fall, thank you everyone for keeping me in mind when it comes to holiday cards, portrait sessions of the fam and new additions, and prints as gifts for your fam!As soon as I finish up with these holiday orders I’ll be back to blog about Courtney & Tyrone’s wedding, Susan & Gavin’s wedding, the Jenkins family, Keri & Gary, Juli & Christopher, Mike & Holly’s wedding, and tons of random tidbits I’ve been putting on the back burner. But today, as I was editing a cute little family portrait session, I came across this image and had to share-it cracks me up to think of the sheer volume of drool that kids produce. I wonder if anyone has ever measured, scientifically speaking…_xyz1441b.jpgp.s. mom isn’t in the habit of giving her baby candy- this was the first time he’s ever tasted sweets (purely for the picture of course! I come prepared with Blow Pops to some shoots…). He totally shuddered after tasting the overwhelming, cheek puckering, sweetness!

Engaged: Sarah & Nathan

We live in a city where it rains. Sometimes a lot. Sometimes we don’t feel like rearranging our schedule to shoot on a sunny day, and sometimes we do. This day, we totally didn’t, and I’m so glad we had our little adventure! Sarah and Nathan met me up at Discovery Park in Magnolia, depsite the fact that it was football Sunday (thanks Nathan for indulging us ladies in our engagement portrait plans!!). It was definitely the fall day of all fall days: windy, rainy, leaves blowing, and a bit chilly. But nothing could stop us- we tromped all over the historic district at Fort Lawton (there really aren’t many buildings there that we’re authorized to walk by, but the couple that are there are so fun and eerie, not widely traveled!), romped through the puddles, waded through the tall grass, and rolled in the mud (okay, it was just me in the mud. I don’t usually make my clients roll in the mud when they are wearing white coats! ;). Here are some favs of mine from this shoot- aren’t they just a gorgeous and happy couple?!?! So comfortable in front of the camera (but Nathan’s a chronic blinker!). I can’t wait for their wedding next summer-I have a sneaking suspicion that it’s going to be just stunning!

Hitched: Suzi & Casey

Since I’m so behind on blogging this month, it’s no secret that Suzi and Casey were married in the middle of September in the historic coastal destination town of Port Gamble… their wedding is featured on my new website!
Suzi and Casey wanted a classy, elegant, yet simple wedding. They called Keri of Bliss Events to help with the planning and design and coordinating, and the wedding was just that- classy and gorgeous, stressless and fun. They rented a couple of houses in historic Port Gamble (think of a town the size of Walnut Grove from Little House on the Prarie, with a church to match!) to get ready.

From there it was a short five minute walk up the road to the quaint and historic St. Paul’s. Blink as you drive by and you’ll miss it! I love love love the cornflower blue walls, the old numbered pews, and crisp white molding. Did you know that they still have the seating chart posted in the lobby from the early days of the church (which were what, the late 1800’s perhaps?)? The ceremony was both comical and sweet (thanks to officiant Annemarie Juhlian).

After the ceremony, we walked back to the Vista Pavillion that overlooks the water, finding fun places to stop and shoot along the way, taking our time and enjoying the walk. The reception was laid back and fun- a game of softball and the best Bananas Foster wrapped it up (THANK YOU Galluci’s for introducing me to the best thing I’ve ever put in my mouth!)
