Hitched: Juli & Christopher

There are just some people, who, after meeting them and knowing them, have made your life even more fun and delightful.  Juli and Christopher are two of these people. I am so happy and thankful to be the one who has documented such a special time in their lives.  They met at one of the best places to find a friend and the love of your life, like many of my other clients and friends, online. He works at Microsoft (and is of course, therefor, totally into photography. What is it about Microsoft employees?! ;), and she brings technology to the masses through programs at UW and Seattle Schools.

With the last few days of crazy April weather (yes, rain, sun, hail, AND snow all in a one hour period this afternoon) I remember the gorgeous, warm sun quite clearly on their late February afternoon wedding.

They wanted their wedding to be all about bringing two families together and celebrating the love that they all have for each other. They each had their pastors speak during their ceremony, Juli wore the cuff of her great grandmother’s wedding dress around her ankle, and they had all sorts of great little surprises in honor of Chris’s two boys. There was a fun moment during the ceremony where Juli was presented a necklace: it was originally a gift from Christopher, and to welcome the boys into her life, she had Greenlake Jewelry Works amend it to include the boys’ birthstones. During the reception, Chris and Juli had a special surprise song planned just for the boys- the Muppet’s Muhnahmahnah song (I know you’re totally singing it in your head right now…). The drink du jour was from Juli’s brother’s award winning cider company, Blue Mountain Cider (you HAVE to have some of this- their cherry apple hard cider goes down like… er… apple juice?). Even the flowers had family importance- you could see tulips everywhere (invitation, programs, table tops, bouquets, even the bridesmaid’s earrings) because when Juli was a girl, her dad would tuck her in at night saying “Time to plant the tulip!”

Thank you guys both so much for welcoming me into your lives- Victoria and I had such a great time at your wedding and everyone made us feel like we were part of the family and welcome guests!!

Come Visit Me at Semiahmoo!

Bridal fairs really aren’t my bag. They’re overwhelming, noisy, kinda cheesey, and by the end of the day you swear you will never attend another one again. On the other hand, there is a rising number of smaller boutique bridal fairs popping up that are more intimate, fun, and most importantly, only a couple of hours long :)

So when I was invited to join them for the Fifth Annual Bridal Fair up at Semiahmoo Resort for their intimate gathering, I was excited! Semiahmoo Resort has been voted Best Destination Wedding Venue by the readers of Seattle Bride Magazine repeatedly, and is a beautiful place for some r&r. On the beach of cute little Canadian border town of Blaine, Washington, Semiahmoo Resort has a golf course and a spa, and a variety of rooms, docks, and patios to have your ceremony. I had the pleasure to photograph Carrie and Adam’s super fun wedding there this last summer, and loved every minute of it!

The bridal fair is next Sunday the 17th of February, so if you’re even remotely considering a destination wedding, or a local wedding if you’re in the North end of the state, come by and visit us! It’s only a couple of hours from Seattle, after all, and afterward, you can cross the border (don’t forget your passport) and go shopping at White Rock. Kelly and I will be there all day (in fact, we’ll be heading up Saturday to stay as guests and really experience what the resort has to offer!), and we’d love to chat with you in between the site tours, fashion show, and tastings! They prefer if you RSVP so that they can plan their goody bags, so do it and come visit!!

Couture Albums: Flushmount Style

I’ll bet my DHL delivery man had never seen a customer so excited to see him as I was.  Some days, it’s like Christmas every day here between albums, prints, equipment, and periphery that gets delivered.  I probably scared the beans out of my DHL courier when I opened the door and squealed like a little girl on Christmas morning.  This delivery was a new sample from one of my fantastic 2007 weddings.  I loved the details from Casey and Suzi’s celebration, and couldn’t help making a huge sample book because their church had cornflower blue walls.  Seriously, I’m a sucker for good wall paint (if you’ve been to visit me, you’ll remember that my walls are a dusty blue!  I should post pictures of that for my cross country readers and my cross the world readers, you know who you are!!!)  So anyway, here it is!  These albums come all the way from New Zealand from Queensberry & Co., and are of course custom designed and handmade.  For this 12×15″ album, I chose a green leather and the new photo front to pick up on the shades in the bouquet.  The pages are flushmount, meaning that the entire page and all of it’s image is one continuous print, but my Couture Albums are also available with custom cut mats for a more heirloom and timeless look (like HERE).  I included one great fold out page, and did lots of full page spreads, and even had a couple of panoramic image spreads, too.dsc_0214.jpgdsc_0217.jpgdsc_0224.jpgdsc_0227.jpgdsc_0234.jpg

Engaged: Juli & Christopher

The countdown has begun- Christopher and Juli’s wedding will be here in exactly one month.  They are so excited- their wedding is planned for University Presbyterian Church in Seattle, and then their casual, fun reception will be at the Hollywood Schoolhouse in Woodinville, complete with some very special personal touches (well, “surprises” is more like it!).

For our Getting To Know You Shoot, we ended up down at Golden Gardens Park just down the way from here on a brr cold winter day.  One of Christopher’s two sons joined us, and being the active cats that they all are, we played basketball and I even brought my two stunt kites.  The sun peeked out just at the end to warm our chilly fingers. We had a great time- I can’t wait to see how their day unfolds!

T minus and counting, right Juli??? Â
