Announcing Baby Natalie!

This is Shaine and Ryan’s second, but their first little girl. A couple of months ago, the phone rang, and it was a gal named Shaine. She laid it all out on the table, something to the effect of: “My regular photographer is at the hospital with her new baby, and I’m going to go into labor in 3 days. I really want to document my belly!” So the very next morning, so bright and so early, on a ferry I hopped, on my way to meet her young son Zach and Shaine for our first portrait session!

Fast forward a couple of weeks, and I get the email announcing baby Natalie Elizabeth’s arrival. She was a wonderful 8 pounds, 3 ounces the early afternoon of July 30th. So we scheduled round two, and again, I hopped on the ferry and scooted over to their home on Bainbridge Island, this time to also meet their crazy retrievers and her husband, too!

Day in the Life: Us 3 and a Bit

Tessa is due any second now. A week or so ago I traveled over to her and Dave’s house in Sequim to photograph the two of them and their son, Jobe, before the newest member comes along. Stay tuned for part two of our two part shoot series: I’ll be traveling back over to the islands to photograph the arrival as soon as I get the word. So I’m kinda on call… kinda like a doctor… it’s kinda fun…

Sidenotes: “Us 3 and a Bit” comes from Tessa’s hilarious emails to me. This is how she always signs the bottom saying that it’s from her, Dave, Jobe, and the little one still in her belly (is it a boy? is it a girl? we won’t know until we know!). She’s going to have to think of something new and witty to write soon! Also… if you have a keen eye you’ll notice that my gold reflector is the backdrop for the pictures of Job laughing: in order to get little kids to comply with your photographic ideas, sometimes you have to play a little and bribe a lot. He LOVED my reflecter and the “whoosh” sound it makes when it opens. I told him that it was my sunshine, and that was all we needed to get him to laugh. Needless to say, the first thing he was talking about the next morning when he woke up was, “Laurel? Sunshine?” I love that he had a great time-sometimes it doesn’t take much to entertain these little guys!

Here are some of my favorite images from our “Day in the Life Shoot.”

Announcing New Announcement Cards!!

(I thought the title was kinda funny ;) )

Recently, a client came to me with an interesting situation- she needed to send out over 200 cards announcing the birth of her new baby. She wanted to do something involving the adorable picture session we had just done, but then I started to think about how costly it would be for her to have 200 custom-designed cards made, plus sending them out at 39 cents apiece, plus writing in each and every one… The kid would be three before her project would be done!

The lightbulb went on in my head, and voila! Custom designed POSTCARDS!!!!

Since they require less paper and ink, 4×6″ cards are only 24 cents to mail, and we could still have the option of custom designing the front AND back of the card, this was the perfect solution to her large project.

So now we have Custom Announcement Cards in the standard 4×6 or the large, impressive 5×8″(larger sizes are regular postage, though), custom designed by yours truly. We can order them in multiples of 100, or 250, or 500, or more, and they can be finished with a glossy coating or with a great matte coating. The reverse side can have another custom design ready for sending, or can be blank. These would be super handy for Save the Date Cards, Baby Announcements, Moving Annoucements, Holiday Postcards, and just about anything else you could possibly think of!

Here are some of the cute ideas we came up with!
