October Events Not To Miss!

I love the fall- the leaves, the air, the hot cocoa, the scarves, the sweaters.  October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so it’s only fitting that two of these events are centered around that!  Here are some great events I’d LOVE to see you at:

Sunday October 5th- Join us Get Hitched, Give Hope gals at the Walk for Hope to Cure Breast Cancer to support City of Hope’s breast cancer research, education and treatment. You can join our team HERE!

Thursday October 16th- An event like no other, our friends Sharlane Chase and Jesse & Travis of True Colors are hosting their yearly celebration and exhibition of couture wedding and event planning at Urban Unveiled.

Thursday October 23rd- The Get Hitched, Give Hope Auction and Benefit, where you can get gorgeous goods for your wedding while giving back.  Help us raise $50,000 to grant wishes for breast cancer patients through auctions, raffles, and donations.  Click here for the latest details, sponsors, goods, and for tickets!

Oh, For the Love of CHOCOLATE!

This is totally un-wedding, un-work, and un-photography related.  But I just had to share this recipe that my step-mom passed along to me… whoever thought this one up is a complete and utter genius.  I know it’s still feeling like summer outside (and man I hope that lasts!!!), but this looks like a great little recipe to keep in mind the next time it rains and you’re totally craving some comfort sweets with your honey!

5  MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE

1 Coffee Mug
4 tablespoons flour(that’s plain flour, not self-rising)
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons baking cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional) some nuts (optional)
Small splash of vanilla

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well . Add the egg and  mix thoroughly.
Pour in the milk and oil and mix well.
Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla, and mix again.
Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes on high.
The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don’t be alarmed!

Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired. EAT!
(this can serve 2 if you want to share!)

Hitched: Heather + Kevin at the Lake Union Cafe

Kevin and Heather.  Super fun clients.  Great sense of humor.  Sometimes they have a little too much fun, but it’s all good- that’s the stuff great stories are made of.

Rewind back to their first date.  It was a sailboat race, the Duck Dodge.  Kevin accidentally knocked Heather overboard, came back to pick her up, and still took second place.  Not too shabby.

Fast forward to their wedding week.  One last weekend on the boat before the wedding.  And splash, bride overboard!  Enter the panic stricken thoughts of black eyes, stitches, and missing teeth on the wedding day.  At least Heather had the peace of mind that she will always, until the end of time, have the upper hand in any argument for the rest of their marriage!  Come wedding day, she looked absolutely radiant, and we all learned a very, very, very valuable lesson: absolutely NO sports the week before you have your wedding!!!

Here are some of my favorite shots of the day- I love all the details, the way Kevin stole sideways glances at his absolutely stunning bride all day, the friends, the music, the big black getaway Caddy courtesty friend Bubba!

And of course, what wedding isn’t complete without the groom showing up for his wedding in his favorite grease covered work overalls and crocs! (”That’s Kevin!” everyone exclaimed as soon as they saw him roaming around the church grounds, true to form as his fun loving self!  Don’t worry, of course he had his suit on under the coveralls!).

Catherine and Mike are SO excited for the arrival of their first baby!  I first met them a few years back, and had the absolutely overwhelming pleasure of photographing their wedding and witnessing an all around fun day at the Edgewater Hotel in downtown Seattle.  I couldn’t have been happier for them when I heard about Catherine’s bump… and boy is she cute as ever!!

Thank you guys so so much for having me over (allll the way across Ballard… go Ballard!!!).  Can’t wait for the phone call saying that its time to schedule part two ;)  And special thanks to Mike for hanging in there… chewing nearly two packs of watermelon flavored Hubba Bubba gum for one silly picture is a tough job!
